Director Corporate Communications at Global Science & Technology, Inc.
September 2004 - October 2013 | Greenbelt, MD / Fairmont, WV / Asheville, NCBuilt and managed all internal/external corporate communications activity, strategy, and B2B relations. I developed and maintained all social media platforms/channels, website, blogs, SEO, inbound marketing, B2B marketing, brand/image development, and all corporate events. Consistently drove GST success and capabilities to national media outlets - Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, Associated Press, Pittsburgh Post Gazette, Government Computer News, etc. • Management: “A daunting task.” GST did not have a consistent corporate image/brand, adequate marketing collateral, website, social media, and customer, government and community relations infrastructure. All activity had to be “built from the ground up.” Created and executed aggressive, communications strategic plan. Developed new corporate brand, “Partnering for Success.” Developed/managed a consistent editorial calendar. Created and maintained media database utilizing Cision and Vocus solutions. Managed PR agency activity and budget. • Website, Social Media, Thought Leadership: Developed/managed multiple social media platforms, blogs, and all inbound marketing activity. • Direct Sales / Marketing / Business Development: Researched and targeted specific government (B2B) opportunities that fit corporate core capabilities. Found the “low hanging fruit” others overlooked from federal, state and commercial existing and potential customers. Aligned Congressional and State funding with federal and state agency needs. Result: Won “plus-up” and “earmark” funding for NOAA and DoD programs valued in excess of $20M. Also won “plus-up” funding for State of West Virginia document management programs valued at $1M. Educated elected and agency leaders on potentially disastrous language in federal and state legislation which, if passed, would eliminate GST contracted work valued at more than $50M. Result: Both Congressional and State Legislative language in separate Bills were changed protecting contracted work and interests. • Outreach: All outreach planning and management had to be built from scratch. Worked closely/mentored top executive staff on media relations activity, crisis communications, etc. Managed customer/VIP visits to corporate offices at all locations. Built a government affairs/relations process, which included targeting, outreach and education to specific U.S. House, Senate and various state legislative leaders and staff on company programs and innovations. Developed community outreach process for all corporate locations in Maryland, Washington, DC, North Carolina and West Virginia.
